Our Commitments

Protecting the beauty of Polynesia

Whether they are reaching for the skies or blending into the Pacific Ocean, the islands of French Polynesia are marvels of balance, an equilibrium that their people have skillfully maintained through the ages. At Pearl Resorts of Tahiti, we want to share this culture and know-how with our guests. We are the only fully Polynesian-owned hotel collection, and we know that harmony with nature is both one of our charms and the condition of our future.

This is why our hotels are designed to blend in with their environment, and favor the use of natural materials – wood, bamboo, mother-of-pearl, pandanus leaves, tapa, coconut fiber, stones and coral. But we are going even further with our environmental charter based on five main principles.

Five Main Principles
  • Water and energy efficiency
    At Pearl Resorts of Tahiti, preserving natural resources is at the heart of our vision of sustainable tourism. Our properties are progressively implementing concrete solutions to reduce energy consumption and optimize water management, taking into account the specific constraints of the Polynesian islands.
    Several sites are already equipped with photovoltaic panels. In Bora Bora, solar energy covers approximately 15% of energy needs, and the overwater bungalows are mostly fitted with solar water heaters.
    We are also developing more sustainable mobility through several electric boats dedicated to transfers and excursions. In Bora Bora, the Okeanos Pearl, a solar-powered luxury catamaran, offers a silent and eco-friendly way to explore the lagoon, in full respect of marine ecosystems. Two additional electric boats handle transfers to the airport.
    On a daily basis, numerous energy-saving measures are in place:
    - Naturally ventilated restaurants, with no air conditioning;
    - Air conditioning regulated between 24 and 25°C;
    - Automatic shut-off of energy-intensive equipment;
    - Daily energy consumption monitoring by technical teams;
    - Rainwater harvesting projects and hydraulic infrastructure optimization.
    This gradual approach reduces our environmental impact while maintaining a premium experience, worthy of the exceptional surroundings of our islands.
  • Waste reduction and management
    In the outer islands, we have replaced in-room plastic water bottles with glass carafes and water fountains. Our disposable tableware is biodegradable or fully recyclable. In Tahiti, a special glass crusher recycles bottles into sand that can be used in construction. LED lightbulbs are in use across all of our resorts. Recycling is encouraged, with sorting bins provided. Our Tiki Parfumerie toiletries are environment-friendly and locally made.
  • Sustainable food & local sourcing
    Our chefs favor organic ingredients from local farmers and fishermen with short supply chains, and aim to grow as many herbs, fruit and vegetables as possible. Composting enriches our vegetable patches and introduces circularity into our cultivation process.
  • Social commitments
    We work hard to support local communities, culture and jobs. Our boutiques showcase beautiful creations from Polynesian artisans, who also offer cultural activities that guests can participate in. We also work to nurture the interests of our staff, many of whom are artisans, artists or accomplished athletes.
  • Biodiversity protection
    We partner with several environmental NGOs. Le Bora Bora and Le Taha'a, both home to coral nurseries that contribute to the health of our lagoons, collaborates with Espace Bleu, while Le Tikehau works with Manu, Polynesia’s ornithological society, to protect the nesting sites of endemic and migratory birds. The Vik’Ura mascot, sold in our boutiques, supports the protection of the endangered ‘Ura’ bird.
    We invite guests to help protect our exceptional environment through a daily 200 xpf contribution billed to their room. While optional, this modest donation can have a significant impact as it is directly donated to our partner associations supporting sustainable development projects across our islands.

Together, we act for tomorrow

  • Use eco-friendly sunscreen (available at the resort's boutiques)
  • Do not feed fish in the lagoon with bread
  • Be careful not to touch or step on corals
  • Help us reduce our usage of water and power by avoiding daily changes of bedsheets and towels
  • Turn off the air conditioning before leaving the room

MĀURUURU. Thank you.
