Our story

Le Taha'a is a living homage to the great Polynesian navigators, those who crossed vast, uncharted oceans guided by stars, wind and instinct. The resort was conceived in their spirit: every architectural detail, every path, every ritual pays tribute to their courage, their curiosity, and their profound connection to the natural world. Here, it is your turn to cast off and let the island lead the way.

An Identity Rooted in our Heritage

The symbol of Le Taha'a is a double-hulled canoe, in tribute to the earliest Polynesian navigators who first populated these shores. This is not mere decoration, it is a philosophy. Our reception echoes a traditional boathouse, a va'a stands at its entrance. The names of our three restaurants — Hawaiki Nui, Tipairua and Titiraina — tell the same story. Even the bathtub, in our overwater suites, takes its shape from one. Nothing here is accidental. Look closely, and let yourself be surprised.

Architecture in harmony with its surroundings

In building a modern and luxurious resort, we wanted to ensure that we approached all architecture and design sensitively, so that our shared spaces and guest rooms were in keeping with our surroundings. The use of materials like unfinished local stone and varieties of tropical wood, along with open structures that breathe with the trade winds, help tell that story, creating a harmonious and peaceful bond.

Tropical gardens

The legendary vanilla vines of Taha’a are a signature feature of our beach villas, and beautifully connect the architecture naturally to the gardens outside. These are carefully tended and filled with many endemic Polynesian plants and flowers, which deepen the sense of place while creating an immersive and profoundly serene feel.

Curated artwork

Throughout the resort, you'll find specially curated artworks from Polynesian artists. Inside and out, through paintings and sculptures – some of which have been commissioned exclusively for the property – these pieces emphasize the close connections we cultivate with local communities. Haumani Stanley's paintings of Polynesian navigation, for example, which can be seen in the Royal Beach Villa, were made exclusively for us.

Relais & Châteaux, since 2004

We're proud that Le Taha'a was the first property in French Polynesia to become part of the esteemed Relais & Châteaux global association in 2004. Our membership also reflects how our three restaurants authentically celebrate French and Polynesian cuisine with creativity, and the fact that our spa is renowned for treatments incorporating traditional Polynesian wellness rituals and local botanicals that soothe, rejuvenate, and energize.

The spirit of your stay

Inspired by those early Polynesian navigators, we see our guests as modern explorers, in search of authenticity, discovery and connection. Like them, you will arrive at the hotel by sea and on that crossing, you will feel the same winds, and discover the landscapes, sounds and scents that once guided those first pioneers.
