Matari'i i ni'a celebration

On November 20th, our hotel celebrated Matari'i i ni'a, an ancestral tradition marking the arrival of Polynesian spring and the return of abundance. This sacred moment is heralded by the appearance of the Pleiades, a celestial spectacle of seven stars that marks the beginning of our warm and humid season.

The relationship between Polynesia and the stars is deeply rooted in our civilization. Our navigator ancestors used these constellations as celestial compasses to cross the vastness of the Pacific, a connection that has shaped our culture and traditions.

To mark this special occasion, we wanted to share with our guests the very essence of our culture through various traditional activities. The evening beautifully concluded around an 'ahimā'a, an ancestral cooking technique using an underground oven, allowing everyone to taste the authenticity of our culinary heritage.
